Want to make your garlic even healthier? Here’s a simple trick:

1) Slice or crush your garlic
2) Set it aside for 7 minutes (this allows the allicin to develop)
3) Enjoy! (For best results, eat it raw!)

Stay healthy during the upcoming cold and flu season. ❤

How’s your garlic holding up? 🧄

Remember—garlic is fresh produce! It does store for quite a while, and while part of us wishes it could last forever...it will start to naturally deteriorate over time. So, it’s important to keep an eye on it. 👀

To protect your investment and the hard work you`ve put into growing it, regularly check your garlic. If any bulbs are starting to feel soft, use them sooner rather than later!

Continue storing your garlic in a cool, dark, dry space with plenty of natural airflow to keep it fresh for as long as possible. ❤

Why do we do a garlic fertilization soak? 🧄

This is why—just look at these roots! This picture shows a garlic clove 10 days after planting. As you can see, the root development is incredible.

The fertilization soak:

✔ promotes root development
✔ reduces transmission of microorganisms
✔ promotes plant health
✔ increases bulb size

Did you do a fertilization soak this year? Share your tips in the comments!

Keene just finished mulching our garlic field 😌🧄

Now our garlic is tucked in, safe and sound, ready for the cold winter ahead. The mulch will serve as a cozy insulating blanket, protecting the garlic from the freeze/thaw cycles. Now, all the garlic needs to do is rest and wait for spring to arrive. 🌱

We are looking forward to resting this winter, too. What a busy season it has been! We still have some garlic left to sell, but things are starting to wind down. Thank you SO much for your support this year. ❤️

How did your planting go? Let us know in the comments!👇

P.S. Visit the “mulching garlic” link in our bio if you need some tips!

We`ve been getting this question a lot lately..."Should I wait to plant my garlic? It’s too warm." ☀️

Nope—don’t wait any longer! We know some of you want to time your planting based on the temperatures, but our recommendation is to get your garlic in the ground ASAP.

Here’s why: garlic cloves, like any produce, will start to deteriorate over time. This is normal! Planting while your cloves are still firm and fresh gives your garlic the best chance to grow into strong, healthy plants. Waiting too long can impact the quality and success of your crop.

So, grab those cloves and get them in the soil!

If my garlic sprouts, is it ruined? 🌱

No worries—it’s not ruined! Early sprouting is totally normal and can happen due to factors like planting time, garlic variety, and temperature. In fact, that little garlic sprout may be a good thing! (It will soak up some sunshine and send energy down to the garlic clove, helping to strengthen the root system.)

So, what now?

Southern growers ➡️ your sprout will likely stay dormant through winter and continue its growth in spring.

Northern growers ➡️ the sprout will probably die back in the winter and re-sprout once the weather warms up!

Either way, your garlic will be just fine. Garlic is very resilient, and it will grow into a beautiful crop next year. ❤

Can I still plant my garlic? 🧄

Absolutely! It’s definitely not too late to get your garlic in the ground. As long as you can work the soil, planting garlic is still an option—and garlic is pretty resilient. Some growers even plant into lightly frozen soil, though earlier planting tends to give stronger root growth.

We are shipping all garlic orders within 1 business day, and we’d love to get you set up with some great garlic! Just place your order, prep your planting area, and get those cloves in the soil. After planting, give your garlic a little water and cover with 3-6” of mulch. Then, sit back and wait until spring!

P.S. All fall planting garlic is 20% off right now!

Question of the Week: I planted six different varieties of garlic this fall. Five have developed sprouts, but one variety hasn’t come up. Is something wrong? 🧄

Nothing is wrong—remember, every garlic variety will sprout at a different time!

We typically see a germination rate of over 95% for our garlic, and we are never too concerned whether the garlic sprouts or not in the fall.

If you are concerned that your garlic isn’t sprouting, you can dig down and see if your garlic clove has roots under it. Root development should occur within 2-3 weeks after planting!

If you did a fertilization soak, you should see roots sooner than that.

All of the garlic that we sell is our own seed stock as well, so we know it grows well. So, just be patient and give your plants time to do their thing. ❤️

Question of the Week: My garlic sprouted—what do I do? 🌱

Depending on your weather, your garlic might sprout in the fall. This is very normal, so don’t worry! In fact, the energy from the sun will be taken in by the sprouts, leading to stronger roots for the garlic to get through the winter.

Depending on your region, the garlic sprout will either die back or stay through the winter. Either way, you should still have a great garlic harvest next summer.

For many decades, it was thought that if the garlic sprouted in the fall, it would reduce bulb size next year. However, professional growers and universities have tested this theory and found that an earlier plant date is actually better, even if it leads to sprouting.

This is because when the garlic is planted earlier, the cloves are at a healthier stage and the roots get well established before the freezing temps arrive. These two factors have been shown to increase bulb size!🧄

It`s garlic planting time! 🧄

If you haven’t planted your garlic yet, now is the time to do it! Garlic seed is at the optimal stage right now to be planted—waiting for perfect temperatures may not always be the best for your seed.

Hardneck garlic usually stores about 3-9 months, depending on variety and size. Since most garlic has been harvested 4-6 months ago, it may start to naturally break down around this time. Garlic seed is produce, and it should naturally rot over time (if not, something is not right).

So, plant your garlic now so it can develop great roots and establish itself for the long winter. Happy planting! ❤️
