Russian Red Garlic is a striking and flavorful heirloom variety that growers love for its reliability, beauty, and bold taste. While some Russian Red strains are classified as Rocamboles, ours is a Marbled Purple Stripe—a robust strain that thrives in both gardens and fields. Unlike Rocamboles, which can be finicky, this Russian Red consistently produces large, impressive bulbs that size up beautifully.

With its vigorous growth, hardy nature, and signature purple-red clove wrappers, Russian Red is ideal for growers in mid- to northern-state climates. It’s also prized for its strong, classic garlic flavor that shines whether roasted, sautéed, or eaten raw.

    I love Keene Garlic! Every clove I planted (215 of them) came up and gave me nice large bulbs that are curing out in the shed right now.

    The Russian Red garlic we purchased in 2025 was amazing! I planted it in two spots in our garden, most in a new 6′ stock tank the rest in a long wooden raised bed. Sadly the stock tank’s holes got clogged some how and it flooded for a couple weeks 🙁 I did drill out even more holes for drainage but only a handfull survived.

    However, they did amazing in the wood bed the bulbs turned out “huge” and beautiful!! Such a surprise, and it’s totaly delicious. We have enough for 2026’s seed stock, but I just had to order more from Keene to expand even more.

    Highly recommend Russian Red for health, beauty & flavor, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

    Keene is the best when it comes to supplying garlic. I got good size bulbs despite the crazy weather I experienced in zone 6a. This variety doesn’t peel as well but the taste is still good.
