Early Portuguese is a stunning heirloom variety that is unique in its extra early harvest. Its bulbs have impressively streaky purple stripes with around 9-12 wrapped cloves per head. Early Portuguese is in the Turban family, which is a sub-category of the Artichoke Family.  While Turbans are always the first out of the field, Early Portuguese is always the earliest of them all.  We highly recommend Early Portuguese for southern growers who need the early harvest to beat the summer heat. Bulbs may be smaller for northern growers.

Early Portuguese Naturally Grown Garlic Bulbs have a great flavor! They are slightly sweet with subtle heat. A delight to cook with!

Garlic in the Turban family does not store very long and should be eaten first. We recommend balancing the varieties you grow to include some longer storing garlics such as Softnecks and/or Purple Stripes so you have garlic to enjoy for many months.

We have a very limited quantity of this specialty variety this year.  For this reason, we cannot offer bulk discounts for Early Portuguese.

Note: Garlic is an agricultural crop that is subject to crop loss due to conditions beyond our control. This can even occur in the curing stage. We check each bulb before shipping them to you. If there are any quality issues, we may need to substitute a similar variety. We rarely need to do this, but it does occasionally happen.
