Description
Northern White Garlic Bulbs for Spring Planting
Northern White Garlic Bulbs are available this spring for planting. They have been kept in cold storage (cold stratified) to mimic winter, ensuring the best spring planting success. In the spring, the bottom of the cloves are starting to root and sprouts are ready to take off and grow!
While fall planting is preferred for the best results, garlic can still be planted in the spring. Plant cold-stratified garlic cloves into nutrient-rich soil as early in the spring as possible. The best results for full bulbing occur if Mother Nature provides a short, cool spring, followed by a warm early summer, with hot temperatures a few weeks before harvest. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the bulbs may be smaller than anticipated. Even if they are small, they have excellent flavor and store longer than fall-planted garlic. Another option is to harvest them early as green garlic.
Northern White Garlic Bulbs, from the porcelain family of garlic, have 4-6 jumbo-sized cloves per bulb, making them a dream to use in the kitchen. They provide large amounts of garlic with little peeling. This variety grows exceptionally well in cold regions and has a hotter taste with strong medicinal benefits. All of our garlic is grown organically, non-GMO, and non-treated.

Basic Spring Garlic Growing Information
- Planting Time: Plant in early spring to harvest that summer, or plant as green garlic to harvest in spring.
- Sun Requirement: Garlic requires full sun – the more, the better!
- Soil Fertility: Adding compost or a balanced organic fertilizer is essential for growing healthy garlic, especially if your soil fertility is low. For the best growth and yield, garlic needs fertilizer at planting time and additional side dressing throughout the growing season. Our Keene Garlic Fertilizer is specially formulated for garlic!
- Planting: Plant garlic as soon as you can work the soil in the spring. Separate cloves and plant each clove 4-6 inches apart, pointy side up and root side down, into fertilized soil. Apply mulch and water.
