Question of the Week: Why does my softneck garlic have a stem in the bulb? Does this mean it’s hard neck garlic? 🧄
No, this does not mean it`s hard neck garlic. The picture below is Inchelium Red (a soft neck variety) and as you can see there are stems in some of the bulbs. When soft neck garlic is stressed it can produce a stem and/or bolt, causing seeds to form in the stem like in the picture below. This is usually related to weather. Especially when soft neck garlic is grown in cold regions, it is more likely for us to see the garlic bolt from the weather extremes.
When this happens, don`t worry. The garlic is still perfectly good for eating and planting! 🌱

Lori is our new team member filling your garlic orders. As a recently retired school teacher, she has all the garlic varieties alphabetized and organized and fills the orders swiftly. She even carries a yardstick around to help push the empty boxes off the higher shelves! 📦📏
Lori also loves to garden at home, and we`re so happy that she decided to join our team. ❤

Cover crop update! 🌱
Earlier this summer we planted buckwheat, let it grow, and tilled it into the soil. Now we are waiting for our second cover crop - mustard - to grow! 💛
After we till this crop into the soil, we will be left with a wonderful nutrient-rich, biodiverse field to plant our garlic in this fall. 🍂

Luna has been our mascot and company therapy dog for the past couple of weeks. We have been very busy packing orders and whenever we walk past Luna she always gives us lots of love. We`re so thankful to have her as part of our team! 🌙

Garlic orders are rolling out the door!! 📦
We start shipping garlic orders in early September to Alaska and those who need to cold-stratify their garlic (Southern regions). Then we ship by region, date of order received, and efficiency.
Remember, we only have about 5 weeks to ship garlic after it is cured, which is a short time frame for us. We are fast and efficient in getting our customers their orders in time for planting and we work day and night to do so. Thank you for your patience and support during this busy time.
You will receive a tracking email before shipping, and we plan to have all pre-orders shipped by October 15th. ❤
