Chesnok Red Naturally Grown Garlic Bulbs

  • Beautiful red striped bulbs for great market appeal
  • Garlic flavor: Always a taste test winner with a rich sweet flavor when roasted and sautéed. Great raw too with a medium not to overpowering garlic flavor which is great in olive oil and salad dressing.
  • Storage: Longer into spring.
  • Collected in 1985 in the village of Shvelisi in the southern republic of Georgia

The bulb and clove amounts are ESTIMATES to help you determine how much garlic there is by weight for help with planting and spacing.     

Approx. 6-8 bulbs per pound and 72-96 cloves per lb. plants 36-48 linear feet at 6” spacing.

We check each bulb before shipping them to you, so if there are any quality issues, we may need to substitute. We rarely need to do this, but it does happen. We do set aside some great garlic in case we do have to substitute garlic!

    This was a total winner for us this year. SE Michigan. We had a slightly dry and mild winter, normal spring, then six weeks of heat and drought, followed by six weeks of very frequent rain. Kind of weirdly, our Chesnok was not ‘done’ by beginning of August. It really wanted to go another week or two before harvest, but the bulbs were huge even so.

    2023 first season growing garlic — it’s almost April 1 and I still have Chesnok bulbs in unrefrigerated mesh bag storage in the basement harvested Aug 1, 2023. They are still plump and firm, while the few remaining bulbs of Wisconsin Korean harvested the same day are getting shrivelly and dry. It’s an exceptional storage garlic. I found it to be a bit more fiddly to cook with, as the cloves are smaller, skins thin, making peeling more work. All winter I kept reaching for the WI Korean to cook with because of convenience, which turned out to be a good idea since it didn’t last as long. But the Chesnok is worth getting a small amount, even if it’s not your favorite, just to keep back and still have nice firm garlic for cooking in April and May. I’m very impressed with its longevity, despite it not being quite as vigorous or convenient as the WI Korean.
