Sedona Certified Organic Onion Transplants

Sedona Certified Organic Onion transplants are a Spanish globe variety that has long storing potential.  Easy to grow and known for high yields with excellent heat tolerance. A long-day onion with good disease & pest resistance. Performs quite well in the Midwest as well as the Northeast.

    • Yellow with light copper colored skins
    • Long Day –  produces well with 14 to 15 hours of sunlight
    • Long Storing, known to store until April in the right conditions
    • Dorman Transplants fresh dug for you!
    • Easy to grow
    • 108 days from transplant
    • Known resistance to Pink Root, basal rot, thrips.
    • Medium-Large Bulb Size
  • TRANSPLANT INFORMATION: Our onion transplants are dormant when shipped. It is normal for them to be pale & slightly dry due to dormancy & shipping. In fact, onions are very hardy & can live off of the bulb for approximately three weeks. Generally, we recommend planting within one week. These healthy transplants will thrive if well cared for. For your gardening success, we have switched from selling potted onion plants to onion transplants.
  • SHIPPING INFORMATION: We ship all dormant transplants starting at the beginning of early April. We dig and then dry the onions.  Once dry and they turn dormant until you plant them.  We ship them within 7-10 days of being dug, so you receive a fresh, dormant, dry onion transplant that is really to grow.  Plant as soon as you can or within a week.  Keep in a cool, dry area until planting.
  • REGIONAL ONION PLANTING: Our onions are well-adapted for mid-northern states. If your region requires earlier planting, consider our Naturally-Grown Onion Sets or you may want to source your onion transplants from a local nursery. For more information, see our Keene Garlic Seasonal Order Shipping Guide.  Always search for growing onions in your region for the best onions and planting times.

Basic Onion Growing Info

Sun Requirement: Onions require full sun – the more the better! Therefore, avoid planting next to crops that might shade your onions.
Soil Fertility: Onions prefer soil with a pH between 6.2 and 6.8. If your soil is too acidic, add ground limestone; if it is too alkaline, add peat moss. Adding compost or a balanced organic fertilizer is essential for growing healthy onions, especially if your soil fertility is low. For the best growth and yield, onions need fertilizer at planting time and additional side dressing.
Planting: Onions grow best on raised beds or raised rows at least 4″ high. Typically, onions can be planted as early as 4 to 6 weeks before the last estimated spring frost.

All our products are farm fresh grown and subject to an occasional crop loss.  We do everything we can to prevent this, but sometimes mother nature wins.  When placing your order, please choose the substitution choice, so we can serve your needs the best way possible.  We do have a comment section for further information you may want to provide us.
