These are greenhouse grown onion plants that most organic farmers use for planting their onions. They are fresh green plants with soil in tact sold in pots of 25 plants, so upon receiving we recommend that you plant right away by separating each onion plant and planting according to your garden plan.
We ship fresh plants in April, if you can’t plant right away, you can repot into a larger pot until planting time. If you have an earlier plant date, you may need to purchase from a local nursery, since our plants are greenhouse grown and ready in April.
Our Organic Garlic Fertilizer works great on onion plants too offering nutrients that onions need like nitrogen, calcium, potassium, sulfur, magnesium, copper, manganese, zinc, sulfate sulfur, all from organic sources. Since onions are also heavy feeders, and to grow those healthier plants that yield larger bulbs, apply our organic garlic fertilizer using the same application rates. Onions require a high source of nitrogen, so fertilization or great nutrient rich soil is essential for a great crop. You can apply our garlic fertilizer or an all purpose fertilizer into the soil a or so week before planting. Apply fertilizer three weeks after planting and then continue with applications every 2 to 3 weeks. Once the neck starts feeling soft do not apply any more fertilizer. This should occur approximately 4 weeks prior to harvest. Water immediately after feeding and maintain moisture during the growing season.
