Makah Ozette Fingerling Organic Seed Potato
Organic Makah Ozette Fingerling Seed Potatoes – Historic Heirloom, Earthy Flavor & Cultural Legacy
Ozette Fingerling Potatoes feature slender, irregular tubers with tan skin speckled by brown freckling and creamy white flesh. When cooked, they develop a dense yet creamy texture with a robust, earthy flavor and subtle chestnut notes. Ozette resists pests and diseases, produces generous yields, and adapts well to diverse climates. With moderate storage ability and open‑pollinated heritage, this variety offers gardeners both reliability and a chance to preserve a cultural treasure.
Ozette Potatoes also carries the living heritage of the Makah Tribe in Washington, where it grew for over two centuries before being shared outside the community in the 1980s. Known locally as Anna Cheeka’s Ozette or Makah Ozette, this petite heirloom fingerling now holds a place on the Slow Food Ark of Taste, honoring its cultural significance and distinctive flavor.

🌱 Seed Potato Growing Information
- Soil: Potatoes thrive in deep, loamy soil that holds moisture yet drains well. They adapt to less than ideal soils but produce best with plenty of organic matter. Create nutrient‑rich soil with our Veggies NKO Organic Fertilizer for healthier plants and higher yields.
- Planting Time: Plant as soon as the ground can be worked, ideally when soil reaches ~45°F. Timing varies by region. Potatoes tolerate light frost but may need protection from hard, late frosts. The Farmers Almanac Planting Calendar by zip code is a great resource for planting times.
- Bed Feet per Pound: 1-lb bag plants approximately 6-8 row feet, depending on the variety. If a seed potato is over 1 inch in diameter, you can cut them into pieces. Leave 1 – 2 eyes per piece. Average is 6-8 pieces/lb., more for Fingerlings. Average planting rate: 10-12″ apart, in rows 30-36″ apart.
- Water: Consistent watering is key. Provide ~1″ of water per week. Stop watering once plants naturally die back.
